Dogs of Proud Spirit

“Once you open your heart, your mind and your home to taking in animals that no one else wants, it becomes sort of like a Field of Dreams: build it and they will come.” – Melanie Sue Bowles: The Dogs of Proud Spirit.”
Me with our new boy, Louie. He was found near death on the side of the road and rescued by some very dear friends of ours… we all decided he needed to be at Proud Spirit.
Bessie
Bessie – “We were never sure about her breeding. Not that it mattered. But she looked like something Dr. Seuss would put together; a comical, happy, goofy dog that made you feel good just being around her.” ( From: Chapter 7 in “Dogs”)
Chloe
“Even as I contemplated who I might network with about finding her a home I knew I’d never get a hold of anyone because this dog wasn’t going anywhere. The reason I knew was because of the look on Jim’s face. . . . . We named her Chloe.” From: The Dogs of Proud Spirit
This is Winston, our little pitty/mix. Found him (and his litter mates) dumped in a culvert near our ranch. Got his mates adopted out… but ended up keeping him.
Lucy in her Proud Spirit T-shirt. Me! Me! Me! Don’t forget Me! Our little boy, Tucker… We are quite certain that he could charm the birds out of the trees, if he were so inclined.
